Control
biological insects using Metarhizium anisopliae
Metarhizium
Anisopliae
is a fungus that grows naturally in soil and causes various insects. Metarhizium anisopliae is used as a biological insecticide
to combat a variety of pests and it is being studied for its use in the control
of mosquitoes that spread malaria. When the spore of this fungus comes in
contact with the cuticle of the target insect pests, it germinates and grows
directly through the spiracle cuticle in to the inner body of the host.
Metarhizium
anisopliae demonstrates
considerable metabolic and ecological versatility and has been observed
colonizing the rhizosphere and adhering to the surfaces of plant roots, and it
may significantly influence this ecological niche by repelling and killing soil
insects. Metarhizium anisopliae is considered to be safe with minimal
risks to vertebrates, humans and the environment.
Metarhizium anisopliae generally enters insects
through spiracles and pores in the sense organs. The fungus produces a lateral
extension of the hyphae once inside the insect, which eventually proliferates
and consumes the insect's internal contents. Hyphal growth continues until
mycelia fill the insect. Upon absorption of the internal contents, the fungus
bursts through the cuticula and sporulates, which makes the bug look blurry.
Under low humidity conditions, Metarhizium anisopliae can release spores. The
fungus can also produce secondary metabolites, such as destruxin, which have
moth and fly larvae insecticidal properties.
In some insects, physiological
mechanisms have been established to minimize fungal infection like Metarhizium anisopliae. For example, the desert locust
produces antifungal toxins, which can inhibit the germination of spores. In
addition, insects can escape infection by molting rapidly or developing a new
integument before the fungus can penetrate the cuticle.
Anand agro care is leading in
insecticides, bio-fungicides, bio-fertilizers metarhizium anisopliae manufacturer &
supplier in Nashik, India. Our product Dr. Bacto’s Meta is
the metarhizium anisopliae bio-insecticides has the ability to attack
and kill insects. We have tested the metarhizium used in many different ways to
assess its safety to people and other animals. It starts producing swelling in
the germ tube and deriving nutrition from the host. The fungus then produces a
lateral extension of hyphae inside insect body which starts feeding on insect’s
internal contents.
